Evelio Mattos works at the intersection of packaging design, manufacturing, and the business of bringing packaging to market.
As VP of Sales & Design at IDP Direct, he works with global brands to turn creative ideas into packaging that can actually be manufactured, balancing design intent with materials, engineering, cost, sustainability, production, logistics, and the realities of a global supply chain.
His career has taken him from the design studio to the factory floor. He has helped bridge design and manufacturing for brands including Tory Burch, ZARA, Tiffany & Co., Tesla, Sonos, Google, and Nespresso, and was named one of Lürzer's Archive's “200 Best Packaging Designers” and one of Graphic Design USA's “People to Watch.”
But much of his work today is focused on sharing what the packaging industry knows.
As host of Packaging Unboxd, Evelio brings together designers, engineers, manufacturers, material innovators, sustainability experts, and brand leaders to make packaging knowledge more accessible. He has served on packaging design advisory boards, was formerly Editor in Chief of The Dieline, and has contributed to packaging education at institutions including ArtCenter, Cal Poly, Michigan State, RIT, Aalto University, and Arizona State University.
His writing for IDP Direct draws from that same network, and from what is happening inside factories every day. Expect practical perspectives on packaging design, materials, manufacturing, sustainability, regulation, cost, and the decisions that determine whether a great idea survives production.
The goal is simple: help creatives design with a better understanding of manufacturing, and help packaging buyers make better-informed decisions about what they produce.
